Dr. William M. Ralston, a general orthopedic surgeon with experience in bone and joint care, specializes in adult joint replacement, knee and shoulder arthroscopy, fracture care and a full range of sports medicine.
Dr. Ralston attended Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1992. He graduated from medical school in 2001 at the University of Health Sciences – College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri, and completed his post-graduate training with an internship at the Medical Center of Independence. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Independence, Missouri, in 2006 and a Sports Medicine and Joint Reconstruction fellowship with Toledo Orthopedic Surgeons in Toledo, Ohio, in 2010. Ralston served as a staff orthopedic surgeon at Womack Army Medical Center in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, during 2006-2009 and served at the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad, Iraq, in 2008.
Most recently, Ralston practiced as a general orthopedic surgeon with an emphasis in sports medicine and total joint reconstruction at Sylva Orthopedic Associates, in Sylva, North Carolina.
While practicing in North Carolina, Dr. Ralston covered several area high school athletic teams, as well as served as one of the team physicians for Western North Carolina University, covering Division I football, basketball, track and soccer athletes.
Dr. Ralston will join Clarke County Hospital’s Specialty Physician team on January 17, 2017. He will provide patients with a wide range of orthopedic care including arthroscopic and joint/hip replacements. In addition to surgery, Dr. Ralston will also have an orthopedic clinic weekly.
