CARSPA met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 14, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. at the Osceola Senior Center following social time at 9:00. Hostesses Sharon Cameron and Sharon Gebhart served brunch cake, coffee, and water. There were 13 members present with Linda Foland presiding.
Guest presenter was Sandy Mason, a nurse from HCI Hospice of Central Iowa. The local office is located on Highway 34 in the west end of the building commonly known as the former U.S. Cellular office. Sandy explained the many services offered by HCI Hospice which is open to anyone of any age. Medicare guidelines dictate that a recipient of Hospice services must have been told by a doctor that he/her life expectancy is no more than six months. HCI assistance may include family caretakers support for family caretakers, needed medical equipment, visiting nurses, and more. There are other different hospice organizations, one being Care Initiatives Hospice in Greenfield.
President Linda Foland read “Thanksgiving Time” from the Iowa Magazine. Linda Foland led the singing of “Grace”.
New officers Sharon Cameron and Venita Escher accepted their duties in an officer installation ceremony.
Minutes from October 10, 2016, were read by Venita Escher. Minutes were approved.
Treasurer Sharon Cameron gave the balance as $567.32 after paying bills which totaled $84.46.
Linda Foland presented an IRSPA Certificate to Dottie VanWerden honoring her work when she was CARSPA president.
On Wednesday, November 16, at 7 p.m.at the Osceola Library Dan Kaercher will present Iowa’s Hidden Treasurers.
The district meeting will be held in Osceola in May, 2017. Volunteers are needed to be host/hostess, to provide table decorations, get morning refreshments, and prepare welcome bags and more. Lunch will be prepared by Thelma Saxton’s Cater 2 You from Chariton.
