Accidents

No citations were issued after an accident 6:15 p.m. Oct. 18 on Garst Street.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff report, Gary Dale Culbertson, 71, of Woodburn, driving a 2009 Dodge east in the 3300 block of Garst Street, was unable avoid hitting several goats in the roadway, killing two goats and injuring another goat. The vehicle sustained minor damage. The goats belonged to Lindsey Sherbon, who was notified.

Damage estimates are $2,000 to Culbertson’s vehicle and $700 to Sherbon’s goats.

No citations were issued after an accident 11:50 a.m. Oct. 23 at Hy-Vee.

According to an Osceola Police report, Luann Lorraine Black, 53, of Osceola, driving a 2006 Pontiac south in the first aisle of the parking lot at Hy-Vee, 510 W. McLane St., was going to make a left turn within the parking lot when she swerved to miss an unknown second vehicle heading west and getting ready to turn north into the first aisle, lost control of the vehicle, went over the raised island and ran into a parking post.

Black said she didn’t know who the second vehicle was and could only describe it as a red car. Black had uncontrollable shaking and said there was the other vehicle that didn’t stop, but wasn’t sure if there was a second vehicle. This was the second suspicious accident in the past couple years.

Damage estimates are $5 to the parking post and $3,000 to Black’s vehicle.

No citations were issued after an accident 5:27 p.m. Oct. 17 at the intersection of South Fillmore and West Pearl streets.

According to an Osceola Police report, Paul Langille, 63, of Osceola, driving a 2012 Kia south on South Fillmore was taking his wife to the hospital for neck pain, went past West Pearl Street and was struck between the front and rear doors by a 2009 Chevrolet driven west on West Pearl Street by Brian Earl Akers, 30, of Murray.

Officers were called to the intersection for the report, and before they were able to arrive, Akers said Langille was trying to get his wife to the hospital so Akers took pictures of the accident and let Langille continue to the hospital. Officers ended up meeting with both drivers at the hospital.

Akers said he was at the stop sign and the sun was right in his face. He said he stopped and looked both ways before entering onto South Fillmore Street, but did not see Langille’s vehicle coming. Akers also said he was talking on his cell phone during the accident.

Both vehicles were able to be driven away from the scene with minor damage. No injuries were reported as a result of the accident.

Damage estimates are $2,500 to Langille’s vehicle and $300 to Akers’ vehicle.

No citations were issued after an accident 4:11 p.m. Oct. 18 at Lakeside Casino.

According to an Osceola Police report, Fernando Alberto Rocha Quintero, 21, of Osceola, driving a 2012 Volkswagen, pulled into a parking spot down by the lake in the parking lot of Lakeside Casino, 777 Casino Drive, exited his legal parking spot, did not realize there was another vehicle next to him and the rear end of the vehicle struck the passenger side of an unoccupied, legally parked 2012 Nissan.

Damage estimates are $500 to Rocha Quintero’s vehicle and $2,000 to the parked Nissan.
