Jerry Ramsey Osceola

Jerry LeRoy Ramsey, born June 6, 1939, to Leonard and Amye (Burgus) Ramsey, in Avon, Illinois, passed away Aug. 15, 2016, at Clarke County Hospital.

Jerry studied at various rural schools, graduating from Osceola High School in 1957.

On Aug. 17, 1958, Jerry married Joyce Hatfield and they were married for 29 years. They had two children, Mitchell born August 26, 1960, and Shellie born July 15, 1962. Jerry worked at John Deere in Ankeny, then farmed for more than 20 years. After farming he enjoyed building chairs, toy boxes and other items for his grandchildren. He worked as a contractor remodeling and painting houses, including his home.

While living at Homestead Assisted Living, Jerry appreciated the staff and residents. They enjoyed his kindness and sense of humor. He enjoyed being with people, traveling, riding his motorcycle and skiing.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father and mother, loving companion Mary Fauble and daughter Shellie Sponsler.

He is survived by his son Mitchell (Donna); grandchildren, Travis, Alyssa, Jabe and Amye, of rural Osceola and Katie and Tyler Sponsler of Osceola; sister Patricia Manley and niece Keri Manley of Colorado and nephew Greg (Mary) Manley of Malvern; great-nephews, Justin O’Very (Amanda and Kylee) of Arizona and Jakeob O’Very (Mariah, Jakiah and Jaylee) of Colorado; Mary’s daughter Michelle of Windsor, Missouri, and son Mike of Ankeny and many relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at LifePoint Assembly of God Church in Osceola.
