Osceola woman expects $5 prize on scratch ticket, ends up winning $50,000

CLIVE – A stop for coffee before work Friday paid off in a big way for an Osceola woman.
Michelle Milloro bought a "Diamond 7s" scratch ticket with her coffee at Casey's, 400 S. Main St. in Osceola and that ticket ended up winning the third of 10 top prizes of $50,000 available in the game.

The 49-year-old said she scratched off her ticket in her car before leaving the store.

“I scratched it off, it had three ball caps and then I kept scratching and I saw a ‘5,’” Milloro told lottery employees the same day as she claimed her prize at the lottery’s headquarters in Clive. “I thought, ‘Oh great I won $5 because that’s usually what I win.’ By the time I got to the third zero, I was crying.”

Milloro then ran back into the store to have her winning ticket verified. She said she had a woman waiting in line double-check her work and she also asked a store clerk to scan her ticket on the lottery terminal.

“I handed it to her and I was shaking so bad that she had to grab my hand and I said, ‘I think I won.’ She said, ‘Well, let me check.’ She went over and, ‘Woo-hoo! You’re a winner!’” she said.

Milloro, who works as a quality control technician at a grain processing facility in Indianola, said she plans to save a majority of her winnings.

Diamond 7s is a $5 scratch game. More details about how to play this game, and number of prizes still up for grabs in it can be found on the Iowa Lottery's website, www.ialottery.com.
