Dorotha Horton Osceola

Dorotha Irene Horton, 98, of Osceola died Friday, June 24, 2016, at Clarke County Hospital.

Graveside services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 27, at Maple Hill Cemetery with Darrin Baumfalk officiating. Lunch was prepared at Woodburn Community Center following the services. Dorotha Irene Horton, daughter of James Alexander Wright and Winnefred (Stubbs) Wright, was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Clarke County. Dorotha received her education in Ayrs Country School in Clarke County and East Concorde, south of Woodburn.

On Oct. 5, 1933, She married Don S. Horton in Osceola. Dorotha worked for a brief time at Snowdon’s in Osceola, but raising her family and helping Don on the farm was her priority.

She was a member of TOPS, Red Hat Society in Osceola; Woodburn Booster Club and Osceola Fishing Club.

Dorotha is survived by her son Charlie E. (Linda) Horton of Humeston; daughters, Annie Shanks of Humeston and Sue (Gene) Jones of Altoona; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Millie Barger of Phoenix and Nell Wright of Osceola and other relatives and many friends.

Dorotha was preceded in death by her parents; husband Don; daughters, Donna Shipp and Louise Sponsler; son Roger Horton; granddaughters, Darva Sue Krantz and Dana Shipp; grandson Sid Shanks; great-great-grandson Waylon Wages; brothers, Kenneth Wright, Willard Wright, Wayne Wright, Clarence Wright, David Wright and Robert Wright; sisters, Elaine Smith, Hazel Horton, Eula Coble and Marjoria Wright; sons-in-law, Roy Sponsler, Ed Shanks and Darv Shipp and sisters-in-law, Cora (Louis) King, Carrie (Kenneth) Davenport and Opal (Don) Schaffer.
