James Mooberry Grimes

James Presly Mooberry, 96, died June 22, 2016, at Kenny Brook Village in Grimes.

Services were held at noon Wednesday, June 29, with visitation one hour prior at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, in West Des Moines. Burial with military honors was at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army. Condolences may be left at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

James, son of Grover and Elizabeth (Hutsinpiller) Mooberry, was born May 1, 1920, on a farm northeast of Osceola. He graduated from Osceola High School in 1939, and married Phyllis Muselman on June 29, 1941, in Bethany, Missouri. They lived in Osceola until moving to Des Moines in 1955.

James enlisted in the U.S. Navy Sept. 11, 1942, and was stationed at Navy Pier in Chicago, Wildwood, New Jersey, and on the USS Midway. He worked as an auto body machinist for 36 years with Myers Ford in Osceola and Ramsey Pontiac in Des Moines.

James attended New Hope Assembly of God church.

James is survived by his sons, Jerry (Terri) Mooberry of Snohomish, Washington, and David (fianceé Kerri) Mooberry of Urbandale; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Phyllis Mooberry; son James Lynn Mooberry; sister Dorothy Kendall and brothers, Darwyn Mooberry, the Rev. Merryll Mooberry and the Rev. Ronald Mooberry.
