Osceola FFA members participate in state vet science competition

The Iowa FFA Association is a youth organization of more than 14,800 student members as part of 226 local FFA chapters across Iowa.

The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

One of the ways the organization helps to build students skills is by providing career development events for students to actively engage with to increase their skills.

The Osceola FFA chapter participated in the annual Iowa FFA Veterinary Science career development event. Members of the team included Alyssa Jackson, Carter Smith, Chynna Beydler and Hannah Pollard.

FFA teams from 13 chapters participated in this year’s career development event designed to provide the student an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of veterinary science.

This was the first year the chapter has participated in this event and the team represented the chapter well by receiving a silver medal. Jackson also placed sixth overall out of 51 students.

Students completed a general knowledge examination focusing on veterinary science. The team members also prepared a video focusing on proper veterinary clinical practices and wrote an essay focusing on biosecurity.

The chapter would like to thank the Osceola Vet Clinic and Judy Little for her support as the students created the vet science video focusing on the correct procedure for doing a fecal exam.
