Sierra Club endorses Congressman Loebsack

IOWA CITY — The Iowa Chapter of the Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Rep. Dave Loebsack, D-Iowa, in the 2016 election.

“We are very pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Dave Loebsack for re‑election,” said Carolyn Raffensperger, political chair of Sierra Club Iowa Chapter. “We are confident that he will continue to work to protect Iowa families’ health, air and water, support measures to combat climate change and its impacts on Iowans, and help build a clean energy economy that works for Iowa.”

Congressman Loebsack had a 2015 League of Conservation Score of 94 percent. His lifetime LCV score is 87 percent. He is a member of the U.S. House Caucus on Energy Efficiency and the Sustainable Energy and Environment Caucus.

He has supported improvements in energy efficiency to bring down costs for Iowa families and businesses, and he has pledged to continue to pursue bipartisan solutions to improve national energy security and expand Iowa’s renewable energy industry.

“We are grateful to Congressman Loebsack for his work on a national energy policy that focuses on affordable, accessible, renewable, and home grown energy in Iowa while spurring job growth. He has voted on numerous occasions to repeal unnecessary Federal subsidies for the oil and gas industries, pointing out that these industries still receive $4 billion in subsidies and tax breaks despite record profits” said Patrick Bosold, vice chair of the Sierra Club Iowa Chapter and a constituent in Congressman Loebsack’s district. “Dave has proven himself to be a strong supporter of the environment who is willing to actively address the challenges posed by climate disruption. We are confident that he will continue his work to protect Iowa’s clean air and clean water, our climate, and America’s national parks, national monuments and wildlife refuges.”

Along with the endorsement, Iowa Sierra Club will encourage its members to support Congressman Loebsack’s campaign. The national Sierra Club will also mobilize its members nationwide to support endorsed candidates.
