Accidents

An accident was reported 7:50 a.m. May 24 in the 2700 block of Highway 34.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Eldon Paul Graves, 40, of Osceola, driving a 1998 Dodge pickup east on Highway 34, stopped his vehicle to turn south onto 270th Avenue. Graves had his turn signal on.

Wayne Alvin Haidsiak, 67, of Lenox, driving a 2009 Chevrolet, was also travelling east on Highway 34. Haidsiak was unable to stop his vehicle and struck the back of Graves’ vehicle.

Haidsiak said he didn’t stop his vehicle quick enough and that he did see Graves attempting to make a turn. He also said he saw Graves’ vehicle in plenty of time to make a safe stop.

Damage estimates are $300 to Graves’ vehicle and $8,000 to Haidsiak’s vehicle.

An accident was reported 9:05 p.m. May 20 near the 33-mile marker on Interstate 35.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Brianna Renee Holden, 26, of Clinton, driving a 2009 Chevrolet north on Interstate 35, struck a deer.

Damage estimate is $2,000.

An accident was reported 4:26 p.m. May 13 in the 1300 block of Highway 69.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Christian D. Crossley, 26, of Eagleville, Mo., driving a 2008 Ford pickup south on Highway 69, crossed the center line and entered into the northbound lane.

James Mitchell Mort, 52, of Indianola, was driving a 2008 Toyota north on Highway 69. Mort tried to avoid a head-on collision and swerved his vehicle into the southbound lane. As the vehicles met, Crossley attempted to turn back into the southbound lane and the front of his vehicle struck the right side of Mort’s vehicle.

Mort was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Damage estimates are $4,000 to Crossley’s vehicle and $10,000 to Mort’s vehicle.

An accident was reported 5:25 a.m. May 21 in the 2100 block of Highway 34.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Gordon Lee Wilkins, 57, of Murray, driving a 1984 Honda motorcycle east on Highway 34, struck a deer. Wilkins was thrown from the motorcycle.

Wilkins was not wearing a helmet and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to Clarke County Hospital by ambulance. There were no improper actions by the driver.

Damage estimate is $400.
