Osceola student receives a nearly full-ride scholarship to Iowa State

AMES — Recent Clarke Community High School graduate Shahil Bhakta of Osceola received the Bright Scholar of Iowa Scholarship to attend Iowa State University.

Bhakta, who will major in aerospace engineering, is one of 10 Iowa high school students to receive the nearly full-ride scholarship to Iowa State. The scholarship is made possible by the H. Dale and Lois Bright Foundation.

Bright scholarships are given to students who have outstanding academic achievement, demonstrate a commitment to learning and community service and have succeeded in the face of adversity. Preference is given to students whose parents have not graduated from an accredited four-year college or university.

Bright Scholarships — which differ in size depending on a student’s circumstances —cover the full cost of tuition, room and board, and books minus all other grants and scholarships received. The award is renewable for an additional three years, provided the student attends full time and maintains a minimum grade point.
