Local student elected to the Iowa FCCLA State Executive Council

DES MOINES — Clarke FCCLA Chapter from Clarke Community High School, along with over 500 members from FCCLA chapters across the state, attended the Iowa FCCLA State Leadership Conference April 3-5.

Clarke FCCLA Chapter member Trinity Miler attended the conference and was elected as a member of the Iowa FCCLA 2016-17 State Executive Council.

After completing an application in January, the candidates completed an interview with state staff and board of directors, and then gave a speech to the entire Iowa delegation about the leadership they would provide for the state association.

Miler was elected as the Iowa FCCLA Vice President of Finance. The State Executive Council is made up of eight FCCLA members across the state of Iowa who will be trained in professionalism, communication and teamwork.

Their duties will include creating a program of work, planning for statewide events and working to promote Iowa FCCLA.

The State Executive Council’s Program of Work will be filled with planning, speaking, travelling, personal growth, and, of course, fun. Miler will represent Iowa FCCLA at the National Leadership Conference in San Diego, California, this July. Congratulations to Miler as she will provide leadership to thousands of Iowa FCCLA members.

To raise money for Miler’s travel expenses, the Clarke FCCLA Chapter is hosting a powder puff football game Friday, May 13, at the high school football field. The game will start at 7 p.m. and the admission fee is $2 per person.

They will also host a fundraiser with Pizza Hut 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, with 20 percent of all regular priced items and tips will go toward Miler’s travel expenses for the conference.

FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), formerly FHA, teaches students financial literacy, health and nutrition, career preparation and early childhood development skills through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

FCCLA is a unique organization because its programs are planned and run by student members. It is the only student-led organization with the family as its central focus.

FCCLA has more than 220,000 members and nearly 7,000 chapters in 50 state associations, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The organization has involved more than 10 million youths since it was founded in 1945.
