Lampe honored at band concert

At the Clarke seventh through 12th grade spring band concert Thursday, April 21, the following letter and the attached artwork appeared in the concert programs as a surprise to honor and thank Brad Lampe, Clarke Community High School band director.

The artwork was created by senior band member Alex Barr.

This is a copy of the letter:

“With gratitude to Mr. Lampe,

Brad Lampe has taught band at Clarke High School since 1987.

When he came to Osceola 29 years ago, there were 37 students in the band. During his time here, he dramatically increased the number of band participants, as well as improved the overall quality of the band program.

Under his leadership, the Clarke High School band has garnered numerous superior ratings, as well as other special accolades throughout the years. Because of his tireless effort and dedication, the Clarke High School Band has developed and maintained a reputation for excellence.

Mr. Lampe has influenced hundreds of students during his teaching career. Not only does he teach band members about music and how to play instruments, but he also teaches students the skills they need to be successful in life, especially in regard to working together as a team in the pursuit of excellence.

His philosophy has been to create a positive, family-like atmosphere within the band. His caring nature, witty sense of humor and infectious enthusiasm are some of the primary reasons high school students have wanted to participate in band and color guard.

Mr. Lampe has been and will continue to be a wonderful role model in the school district, as well as in the community. His influence has extended beyond Osceola to his colleagues in the band profession.

Mr. Lampe has served in many capacities in several professional organizations. Highlights include being elected by his peers to serve as president of the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association and later being elected as president of the Iowa Bandmasters Association.

We greatly admire all of Mr. Lampe’s remarkable accomplishments! We would like to wholeheartedly thank him for everything that he has done during his many years at Clarke!  We wish him the best in his new role as an instructional coach for the school district!

THANK YOU, MR. LAMPE!”
