Ed Ratashak Jr. Osceola

Edwin George Ratashak, Jr., 67, of Osceola died Monday, April 18, 2016, at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., in Osceola, with the Rev. Brian McCracken officiating. Interment was in Murray Cemetery. Visitation with family present was from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 22, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Michael J. Edwin George Ratashak, Jr., son of Edwin George Ratashak Sr. and Eloise Alyss Turner Ratashak, was born March 12, 1949, in Council Bluffs. Ed grew up in Clarinda graduating from Clarinda High School in 1967. He attended Iowa State University (ISU) and received his Bachelor of Science degree in farm operations in 1971. He later attended Graceland University and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration with a minor in economics and was named outstanding graduate. He received his Masters of Taxation degree from Drake University, and then passed the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.

On June 12, 1971, Ed married Patricia Joy Norman at Humboldt. They have made their home in the Osceola area for the past 43 years. Ed farmed and worked as a CPA for RSM McGladrey in Des Moines.

He was a member of the ISU Lettter Winner’s Club, ISU Alumni Association, ISU Scabbard and Blade Honorary Society, Army ROTC, Clarke County Farm Bureau and past president, Clarke County Fair Board and had served as swine superintendent, Clarke County Cattlemen, Osceola United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees and Farm Service Board.

Ed is survived by his wife Pat Ratashak of Osceola; son Luther Ratashak of West Des Moines; daughter Betsy (John) Ratashak-Vogel of Vacaville, California; granddaughter Marta Vogel of Vacaville, California; parents, Edwin, Sr. and Eloise Alyss Ratashak of Clarinda; sister Karen (Richard) Perala of College Springs; sister Kathleen (Gary) Woodin of Lake In The Hills, Illinois; brother Larry (Ann) Ratashak of Thurman; sister Barbara (Eldon) McAlexander of Archie, Missouri; brother Dennis (Stacy) Ratashak of Mitchellville; brother Kenneth (Shanna) Ratashak of Cary, North Carolina; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Ed was preceded in death by an infant son Matthew in 1976.
