Audit report released on Clarke County

Hunt and Associates, P.C., certified public accountants, released an audit report on Clarke County.

The county had local tax revenue of $15,719,340 for the year ended June 30, 2015, which included $1,097,239 in tax credits from the state and $252,767 in gaming tax. The county forwarded $10,707,904 of the local tax revenue to the townships, school districts, cities and other taxing bodies in the county.

The county retained $5,011,436 of local tax revenue, including $325,314 in tax credits from the state and $252,767 in gaming tax to finance county operations, a 12.5 percent increase from the prior year.

The increase was because of higher property tax levies in anticipation of increases in overall county costs.

Other revenue included charges for services of $767,370, operating grants, contributions and restricted interest of $5,075,514, capital grants and contributions of $608,862, unrestricted investment earnings of $18,305 and other general revenues of $43,543.

Expenses for county operations totaled $8,115,046, a 3.4 percent increase from the prior year. Expenses included, $3,494,232 for roads and transportation, $1,786,234 for public safety and legal services and $963,591 for administration.
