Parents charged in death of Decatur County infant

LEON — Decatur County parents have been charged in the death of their 3-month-old infant son.

Joshua Russell Guill, 25, was originally charged with child endangerment causing serious injury, a class C felony, April 5. That charge has been upgraded to child endangerment causing death, a class B felony, and first-degree murder, a class A felony.

Jasmin Leigh Kifer, 20, has been charged with child endangerment causing serious injury, a class C felony.

According to a Decatur County Sheriff's report, on April 4, at approximately 11:55 a.m., the sheriff's office received a 9-1-1 call that a three month old infant, identified as Sebastian Guill, was having trouble breathing.

Emergency crews were dispatched to 446 Washington St. in Grand River where they discovered the infant was non-responsive.

Emergency lifesaving efforts were started and the infant was transferred to Decatur County Hospital by ambulance. The infant was then transferred to Blank Children's Hospital by air ambulance, where he died April 7.

An autopsy was performed at Polk County Medical Examiner's Office. The results are pending.

Guill is being held in Decatur County Jail on $500,000 cash only bond. Kifer is being held on a $10,000 cash only bond.

Iowa Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and Leon Police Department are assisting Decatur County Sheriff's Office with this investigation.

According to the sheriff's report, this is an ongoing investigation and nothing further is being released at this time.
