Carly’s campaign

Republican hopeful Fiorina touts herself as conservative outsider at the Family Table

One thing Carly Fiorina won’t do is settle.

“I think we have been told for far too long, sit down and be quiet,” Fiorina said during a campaign stop at the Family Table Restaurant Monday, Jan. 25. “Sit down and be quiet about our God, our guns, the abortion industry and the truth of it. Settle. Settle for a government and a political system that no longer works for us. Don’t challenge that system, just accept the way it is. And, I don’t think we can settle.”

Fiorina is running for the Republican nomination for the presidential election in November. She was making campaign stops throughout the state ahead of the Iowa Caucuses.

The restaurant was packed with Fiorina supporters and political stickers were handed out to the listeners from campaign staff.

Business world

The only female Republican in the race, Fiorina’s background is that of a former technology executive and chief executive officer in the business world.

In 2010, she was the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in California but lost the election to incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer.

Fiorina took shots at politicians on both sides of the political sphere, as well as crony capitalists.

“Donald Trump is a guy who has been on the inside his whole life, too,” she said. “He tries to tell us all he’s an outsider, but he’s the ultimate insider. He’s the ultimate crony capitalist.”

On display at the restaurant was “The Blueprint to Take Our Country Back,” which is Fiorina’s plan for presidential success.

Blueprint for success

These were the bullet points on the blueprint:

• Radically simplify the tax code to three pages and replace the IRS

• Pass zero-based budgeting to examine every dollar and to move or cut any dollar

• Repeal ObamaCare and promote the free market in health care

• Stand for life and religious liberty to restore the character of the nation

• Secure the borders and enforce a pro-American immigration system

• Defeat ISIS and put America back in the leadership business

“No, Mrs. (Hillary) Clinton, climate change is not our most pressing national security threat; ISIS is,” Fiorina said. “Closely followed by Iran.”

Many times throughout Fiorina’s speech, the audience applauded what she said about conservative values.

“I expect to be held accountable,” Fiorina said. “You see, I come from the world you come from. We know that talk is cheap. We know that actions speak louder than words. We know a person’s character is measured by what they do, not by what they say.”
