Learn more about Mosaic

Learning the skills you need to be successful is something everyone has to do. Whether it be going to school and/or doing an internship, we all must learn so that we can grow as individuals.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela

Mosaic of South Central Iowa’s mission statement reads “Embracing God’s call to serve in the world, Mosaic advocates for people with intellectual disabilities and provides opportunities for them to enjoy a full life.”

Mosaic’s mission is to provide each person we serve with their own plan to achieve their own goals and for some of those people their goal is be able to work out in the community alongside you and me.

Lucas County Health Center in Chariton partnered with Mosaic and adopted an internship program for the people Mosaic serves, called Project SEARCH. It is a nine-month internship program that includes classroom learning and on-site training.

In the classroom they learn skills such as training for interviews and working on their resumes, and on site they learn hands on work such as meal prepping, taking out the trash, grounds maintenance and cleaning the floors and offices spaces.

Mosaic’s goal is to get the communities of south central Iowa to recognize the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities and to build connections so they can work towards positive relationships. Mosaic has had their partnership with Lucas County Hospital since 2013. There has been nine people graduate from the program with eight who have gained community employment.

Right now, there are five interns in the midst of their internship and they have successfully completed their first of three rotations. Mosaic would like to congratulate these individuals on their tremendous job and wish them luck with the rest of the program.

If you know of a job opportunity that might be a good fit for someone that Mosaic serves, let them know because each and every opportunity counts.
