Building up

Seid gives positive review of Clarke students during school’s construction phase

The past couple of months have been a period of adjustment at Clarke Community High School.

Since the beginning of the school year, students and staff have dealt with the remodeling and construction that is taking place within the building.

Throughout the transition period, Superintendent Steve Seid said he has noticed one important thing — middle and high school students have done well adapting to the interruptions of the school’s layout.

“It just kind of verified to us, even though we knew it, really how good our kids are here. And, how they’re flexible and do what they need to do,” he said.

Worked on

Right now, construction is being done on many things. The cafeteria is being expanded and the former main office is now going to be a seating and welcoming area.

The computer lab is now going to be the main office. The main entrance will be changed to coming into the auditorium and it will have handicap accessibility, card readers and more security tools.

Seid said security measures would also be implemented at the middle and elementary schools to provide a safer school environment all-around.

“It all intertwines together, but it takes a little bit of time,” he said. “It’s going to be this marvelous-looking addition or remodel to our school.”

Hearing good things

Seid said some of the construction workers have even made comments to him about how Clarke students have adapted so well to the changes with the ability of going with the flow. This has made their work easier and gives a positive reflection on Clarke students.

“All too often, we hear about kids making mistakes or making poor choices. But, we forget about the hundreds of kids who do things right every day,” he said. “I wanted to let our community know that we really do have great students here for a variety of reasons. It’s not just academics. It’s not just athletics. But, it’s them just being people — good citizens of the community. They reflect that every day.”
