Clarke students participate in ‘Real Men Sing’

WAVERLY — Five Clarke Community Middle School students participated in the “Real Men Sing” choir festival at Wartburg College in Waverly Saturday Oct. 17.

Seth Cisler, McCormick Evink, Josiah Heckman, Ronak Robinson and Jarod Perez participated in the choir for males in grades seven through nine.

The festival also had a choir for males in grades 10 through adult. The students prepared music prior to the festival with their choir director Ann March.

The festival day was filled with rehearsals, a mini lesson in beat boxing and a performance by Vocal Point, a male acapella ensemble from Brigham Young University, which was a finalist on NBC’s “The Sing-Off.” The festival culminated in an evening finale concert.

Along with the two festival choirs, performing on the concert were the Wartburg College’s male ensembles Ritterchor and Festeberg. Simon Estes made a special appearance as did the special guests Vocal Point.

The grand finale to the concert was all festival participants singing an original Vocal Point composition, “Nearer My God to Thee,” with that group.
