Meet the candidates for Osceola City Council, mayoral races

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, the public is invited to an open candidate forum held at the Lyric Theater in Osceola.

From 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. the candidates for Osceola’s contested mayoral chair and three city council spots will be invited to present their platforms and take questions from the public.

This election cycle sees a vacancy in the mayor of Osceola’s chair for the first time since Mayor Fred Diehl took office in 2003.

Other council openings being contested include the first ward seat, currently held by Chris Dorsey; the third ward chair, currently held by David Walkup; and the at-large seat held by Dr. George Fotiadis.

Three of the four positions in the race have new candidates vying for the public’s votes.

For the at-large position, Dr. George Fotiadis, and Jon Ryan Sullivan will be competing.

The first ward seat is being pursued by Douglas Gay and Byron Jimmerson.

And the hotly contested mayoral chair is being sought by three candidates — Ronald Eshelman, Thomas Kedley and Dr. James D. Kimball. At this time, David Walkup, the third ward chair, is running for re-election uncontested.

All of the candidates will be invited to the Oct. 20 forum to take people’s questions and help define their goals for the future of Osceola.

Host and sponsor of the event, Clarke County Development Corporation (CCDC), encourages all residents to come learn more about the candidates, the issues facing Osceola and candidates’ vision for the future of the city.

The vote for these positions will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3.
