Judith “Judie” Jane Lindley, daughter of Hugh Cosgrove and Charlene (Plague) Cosgrove, was born on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan and passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 at 73 years of age.
Judie grew up in Eastern Star Village Orphanage in Adrian, Michigan. She met Byron “Joe” Lee Lindley in Maryland in the summer of 1966 and they married six weeks later on Sept. 2, 1966. They divorced for a short time, but remarried on July 12, 1986 in a surprise wedding for their family and friends.
Joe and Judie moved from Maryland to Des Moines in 1970, then to a small acreage just outside of Murray in 1978. Judie had recently retired from Wells Fargo in Des Moines after working there the past 15 years. Judie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, fiercely dedicated to her family. She loved reading, the music of John Denver and the Gaither family, anything about horses, tinkering in her flower garden, the color yellow, sunshine and springtime. She would adopt any stray animal that crossed her path, and insisted on feeding all the wild animals she could. She was hilarious, stubborn, generous and beloved by all who knew her.
Judie leaves behind a brokenhearted family: husband Byron “Joe” Lee Lindley of Murray; son Sean (Toni) Lindley of Des Moines; daughter Shannon Lindley of Des Moines; grandchildren, Heaven (Robert), Elizabeth and Sean Michael Lindley; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Ethan and Joseph Stephen, all of Des Moines; sister Jeanne (Glenn) Collins of New Jersey; as well as other relatives and many friends.
A memorial service will be held in the springtime.
