Accidents

Gregory Alan Gilbert, 21, of Osceola was cited for failure to maintain control after an accident 1:40 p.m. Aug. 28 at the intersection of Country Club Road and 240th Avenue.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Gilbert, driving a 1998 GMC north on Country Club Road, took the curve and entered into loose gravel on the shoulder of the road. Gilbert lost control of the vehicle and struck the edge of a bridge where the vehicle came to stop.

There were no reported injuries. No damage was reported to the bridge. Gilbert’s vehicle was considered a total loss.

Guadalupe Rutili Torres-Rios, 29, of Des Moines was cited for failure to maintain control after an accident 8:15 a.m. Aug. 30 in the 1500 block of Highway 69.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Torres-Rios, driving a 2007 Toyota north on Highway 69, came around a sharp corner in the road and lost control of the vehicle. Torres-Rios ended up driving through a yard, struck a pole, exited the yard and came to a stop on the highway.

Damage estimates are $1,500 to Torres-Rios’ vehicle and $150 to the yard and corner post owned by Tony Watkins.

Nora Rosanne Watkins, 63, of Osceola, was found to be at fault after an accident 12:40 p.m. Aug. 30 in the 1400 block of Truro Pavement.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Watkins, driving a 2007 Kia south on Truro Pavement, swerved to miss striking a dog and crossed the center line of the road. Watkins’ vehicle struck a 2006 Chevrolet driven by Tiffany Elizabeth Brown, 20, of Creston. Brown’s airbags deployed in the vehicle.

Damage estimates are $4,000 to Watkins’ vehicle and $6,000 to Brown’s vehicle.

Ray Byron Russell, 67, of Osceola was found to be at fault after an accident 8:48 p.m. Aug. 27 near mile marker 117.5 on Highway 34.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, David Dean Denning, 66, of New Virginia, driving a 2013 FRHT tractor-trailer/semitrailer owned by Randolph’s west on Highway 34, was struck by Russell’s 2011 Jeep as it attempted to turn left onto Highway 34. The semitrailer was struck in the second and third axle area on the driver’s side.

Damage estimates are $1,000 to Denning’s vehicle and $5,000 to Russell’s vehicle.

An accident was reported 7:35 a.m. Aug. 27 at 2217 310th Ave.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Austin Ray Richardson Blades, 19, of Woodburn, was driving a 1996 Oldsmobile owned by Fern Kathryn Parker south on 310th Avenue. A 2001 Chevrolet driven by Nathan Allen Binning, 38, of Woodburn, was coming out of a driveway heading east and turning and turning north onto 310th Avenue.

Blades’ vehicle was approximately 120 feet from the driveway where his tracks show him moving to the east side the road. Binning’s vehicle had completed a turn onto 310th Avenue going north on his side of the road.

Blades’ vehicle crossed the center line of the road and struck Binning’s vehicle head on. Blades stated his vehicle’s break line had been leaking.

Damage estimates are $2,500 to Blades’ vehicle and $6,000 to Binning’s vehicle.

An accident was reported 1:30 p.m. Sept. 1 in the 2900 block of Pacific Street.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Jonathan Matthew Parker, 27, of Des Moines, driving a 2012 Chevrolet truck and trailer owned by K and R Underground LLC west on Pacific Street, lost control of the vehicle and didn’t make the curve in the road because of gravel dust from a vehicle in front of him. The truck and trailer came to a stop in the north ditch. It rolled over and caused damage to the equipment in the trailer.

Damage estimate is $58,000.

An accident was reported 8:45 p.m. Sept. 2 in the 2000 block of 205th Avenue.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, a vehicle broke down in the 2000 block of 205th Avenue. Noreen Marie Smith, no age given, of Osceola, driving a 2011 Chrysler, stopped to help. Smith pulled her vehicle in front of the disable vehicle to jump start the battery.

The driver of the disabled vehicle got in between the cars to hook up the jumper cables. Smith forgot to put her vehicle in park and the vehicle rolled forward pinning the driver between the two vehicles. The injured person, Clayton Levi Miller of Afton, was transported to Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston complaining of leg and knee pain.
