Osceola High School football teams

The year 1904 had Osceola High School’s first football team.

In August of 1904, W. O. Chisholm of Rock Valley, Iowa, was elected principal of Osceola High School. In September, football enthusiasts met in the armory hall and organized a football association. Professor Chisholm was elected manager and Tom Andrews, the new baker at the Arlington Cafe, captain of the High School Athletic Association organization.

In October, a football game between Leon and Osceola high school teams resulted in a famous victory for the Osceola boys. The score of 56-0 would not indicate a very exciting game, but it was told the Leon boys played well.

The last names of a few of the 1904 Osceola team members were Banker, Wilder and McNichols. Anyone with information as to the identity of the team members, please contact this writer in care of Clarke County Publishing. Names received could be shared with readers and included with the photo in historical records.
