Osceola’s Memorial Day ceremony information

Members of American Legion Davis-Pence Post No. 69 will be raising flags at Maple Hill Cemetery starting 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23. They will be taken down 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 26. All volunteer help is appreciated.

Osceola’s Memorial Day ceremony is 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, at the Civil War memorial at Maple Hill Cemetery. The memorial is located on the east side of the highway and south of the maintenance buildings.

The American Legion will be commemorating 150 years since the end of the Civil War. It is recommended for people to bring their own lawn chairs if they plan to attend.

This is the program for the Memorial Day ceremony:

• Star Spangled Banner — Tawny Waske

• Pledge of Allegiance

• Welcome — Commander John Sharp

• Invocation — Tom Murr

• Introduction of spear — Dan Hooper

• Keynote speaker — U.J. Booth

• Laying of the wreath — John Sharp, Les Van Heeswyk

• Reading of names — Darel Foland, Lester Smith

• Benediction — Tom Murr

• Gun salute — Davis-Pence Post No. 69 firing squad (Ron Harper-Sgt. At Arms)

• Cannon salute — Members of 3rd Iowa Light Artillery (Randy Jackson, Dennis and Vicki Williams and Wesley Keeler, Civil War reenactor)

• Taps — Kelsi Norris

• Adjournment — Commander John Sharp
