Ronald VanDyne Osceola

Ronald Junior VanDyne, 74 of Osceola, Iowa went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 surrounded by his loving family and a very special friend, Valena Spragg.

The son of Ira and Florence (Smith) VanDyne, Ronald Junior VanDyne, was born on July 27th, 1940 in Powersville, MO. The family moved later to a farm near Seymour, Iowa where Ron attended country school for some time. He then attended Seymour schools, and later Wayne Community High School where he graduated in 1958.

Ron met and married Donna (Garrow) VanDyne in 1959 and to this union five children were born: Debbie, J.R., Tim, Laurie, and Nikki. The couple later divorced and Ron met a friend who became his life long companion and friend: Valena Spragg. Valena and Ron spent the last fourteen years of his life enjoying many recreational activities together. You could find them walking the halls of the Osceola Hospital every morning where they wore a path on the carpet doing their laps. In the evenings you could be sure to find them at a country jam session, very rarely did they miss one. And they danced and made many new friends.

Ron was blessed with several grandchildren, Treye (RandyJo) VanDyne and their children: Taylon, Tanner and MaddieJo; Chris VanDyne of Centerville, Iowa; Tyler VanDyne and his daughter Addie of Albia, Iowa; Amanda VanDyne (Ian Harper) and their children, Colt and Hunter, of Allerton, Iowa; Brandon Roof of Centerville, Iowa; Selenna (Rick) Cleary and their children: Jazmyn, Michael and Conner VanDyne of Allerton, Iowa; and Tate VanDyne of Corydon, Iowa.

Ron loved his family and especially loved watching his grandchildren in sports. He was once named Parade Marshall at Corydon’s Homecoming and Fan of the Year for both softball and wrestling.

Ron will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include his children: Debbie VanDyne of Des Moines, Iowa, J.R. VanDyne of Allerton, Iowa, Tim Van Dyne of Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, Laurie Roof (VanDyne) of Centerville, Iowa, and Nikki VanDyne of Allerton, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; special friend and companion Valena Spragg; brother, Harold VanDyne of Ankeny, Iowa; sister, Jean (Tom) Boyce of Corydon, Iowa; and many nephews, nieces and cousins, all of whom he loved very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Florence VanDyne; brother, Bub (Verlan) VanDyne and his wife, Annabelle VanDyne; niece, Cindy Phillips (VanDyne); and sister-in-law, Gloria VanDyne.

A private family visitation was held with immediate family. Graveside services were Friday, May 08, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Allerton, IA Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Valena Spragg to be used to honor Ron’s memory.
