National group rallies through Iowa celebrating CNAs, their profession

Southern Hills Specialty Care will be hosting a rally presented by the National Association of Health Care Assistants, NAHCA, to recognize their certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and their dedication to providing care for Iowa’s frail and elderly.

This is just one stop on a month long state-wide tour “CNAs Caring for an Aging America, Proudly Taking It On!”

CNAs provide more than 90 percent of the bedside care and are instrumental in the delivery of quality care.

The demand for CNAs is great; the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the need for CNAs to grow by 21 percent through 2022 because of aging baby boomers, growing rates of chronic conditions and dementia.

NAHCA was created in 1995 to provide much needed recognition and ongoing education to the CNA profession, as well as a platform to recruit individuals to the CNA role.

On Tuesday, May 5, at 10 a.m., the NAHCA co-founders Lori Porter and Lisa Cantrell will stage an outdoor “rally” to honor the CNAs in this community for their work and dedication.

Porter explained, “Being a CNA is very difficult, both physically and emotionally. We want to use this opportunity to recognize their important work, as well as bring a spotlight to the profession, highlighting the rewards of caregiving so that others will consider the CNA career path.”

The address for Southern Hills Specialty Care is 444 N West View Drive in Osceola, Iowa.

NAHCA’s mission is to elevate the professional standing and performance of certified Nursing Assistants through recognition, motivation, education and development; building alliances with health care providers, reducing costs and improving the care for our frail and elderly population.

Today, the Association has a membership of more than 26,000 caregivers representing over 500 nursing homes in 29 states and the District of Columbia.
