Accidents

Helen Mae Harper, 63, of Patterson was issued a citation for failure to stop in a clear distance after an accident 3:45 p.m. March 29.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Harper, driving a 2015 Buick, and Gary Wesley Whitsell, 66, of Chelsea, driving a 2012 Chevrolet pickup, were both driving north on Interstate 35 near the 36 mile marker.

The report states Harper fell asleep and the vehicle came up behind Whitsell’s vehicle and struck the back of it. The report states Harper is at fault for the accident.

Damage estimates are $6,000 to the vehicle belonging to Ean Holding’s and $3,500 to Whitsell’s vehicle.

An accident was reported 1:28 a.m. April 13 in the 1500 block of Highway 69.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Jonathan Josue Romero Sanchez, 23, of Osceola, driving a 2011 Mitsubishi north on Highway 69, lost control of the vehicle. Sanchez left the scene before law enforcement could arrive.

Damage estimate is $2,500 to the vehicle belonging to Palma Sanchez.

No citations were issued after an accident 6:10 a.m. April 15 one and a-half miles west of Osceola on Highway 34.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Louise Annette Brown, 58, of Murray, driving a 2013 Dodge east on Highway 34, struck a deer.

Damage estimate is $2,000.

No citations were issued after an accident 8:48 p.m. April 14 in the 3200 block of Highway 34.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Heather Marie Cromer, 28, of Lucas, driving a 1999 Buick east on Highway 34, struck a deer.

Damage estimate is $3,000.

Everette King Jones, 38, of Osceola was issued citations for failure to maintain control, not having registration, not having insurance and driving while suspended after an accident 3:25 p.m. April 24 at the intersection of Liberty Highway and Norman Street. Charges for driving while intoxicated are pending because of lab results.

According to a Clarke County Sheriff’s report, Jones, driving a 1981 GMC north on Liberty Highway, lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle entered the north ditch, rolled completely over and landed on its wheels.

Jones left the scene of the accident but was identified by a witness.

Damage estimates are $5,000 to the vehicle owned by Jackie Fitzgerald Nordyke, $200 for a stop sign, $300 for a fence and $1,000 for a shut off valve owned by Southern Iowa Rural Water Association (SIRWA).
