Clarke golfers fall to Knoxville

The Clarke golf teams opened the season here April 2 against Knoxville and West Central Valley, falling to Knoxville on both the boys and girls side.

Knoxville posted a score of 214 in the girls competition to edge the Lady Indians by 14 strokes. West Central Valley did not have any girls golfers.

On the boys side, Knoxville rolled to the team victory with a score of 160, compared to Clarke’s 230. West Central Valley did not have enough golfers to compile a team score.

For the Clarke girls, Breana Lowry finished two strokes shy of runner-up honors, posting a nine-hole score of 53. Courtney Clark was close behind with a round of 54 and Ann Taylor finished the day with a round of 55.

Samantha Stickels rounded out the team scoring with a score of 66. Alexxa Blair recorded a round of 67 and Morgan Bailey finished the day with an 82.

Knoxville’s Sierra Finley won medalist honors with her round of 49, while Evy Wells was runner-up with a score of 51. Maggie Leavitt and Taylor Harding each finished with rounds of 57, while Lizzy Sullivan golfed a 63 for the Panthers in the wet, cold and windy conditions.

Weston Brokaw led the Clarke boys with his nine-hole score of 49. Damon Helgevold added a round of 57, while Nick Johnston and Carter Wilken rounded out the team scoring with their rounds of 62.

Adam Smith contributed a score of 71 and John Cutshall finished the day by carding a 77.

Knoxville’s Ben Galeazzi won medalist honors with his 2-over par round of 37. Skylar Cunningham finished runner-up for the Panthers with a 4-over par round of 39. Alan Barkee finished with a round of 40 and Ryan Davis rounded out the team scoring with a round of 44.

Max Lincoln and Logan Pruitt each finished with rounds of 51 for West Central Valley.

The Clarke golfers return to action today, with the boys team hosting Chariton, Albia and Moravia at 4 p.m., while the girls team travels to Wayne with action beginning at 4:15 p.m.
