Richard Vawn Osceola

Richard Vawn, 76, of Osceola died Feb. 8, 2015, at his home in Osceola.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. The Rev. Terry Robert will officiate. Richard was cremated, and per his wishes, his cremains will be buried in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given to his family for a bench to be placed at Q-Pond. Richard Eugene Vawn, son of Maxine (Hays) and Henry Vawn, was born Aug. 6, 1938, in Osceola.

Richard grew up in Osceola.

He married Donna Ruark.

Richard worked as a welder and high steel worker for the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Union, or Iron Workers Union, for many years and was a lifetime member. He helped build many buildings in the Des Moines area. After his retirement, as an iron worker, he began driving a truck for Gilbert Trucking in Van Wert.

Richard is survived by his son Danny (Debora) Vawn and grandchildren, Evan and Tessa, all of Cherokee; stepson Randy (Rhonda) Ruark of Madrid; stepdaughters, Carolyn Meyer of Des Moines and Brenda Bowers of Neosho, Mo.; sister Mary (Jim) Ellis of Weldon; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Earl DeVol; and ex-wife Donna Vawn.
