Junior Duck Stamp art contest planned

This is a calling for all kindergarten though 12th grade student artists and nature enthusiasts.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is now accepting entries for the 2015 Iowa Federal Junior Duck Stamp art contest. By entering the contest, students learn about waterfowl and their habitat, and then create an image of an eligible North American waterfowl species.

Iowa entries must be mailed (postmarked) or hand delivered by Wednesday,
Feb. 25, to Clarke Area Arts Council, Mary Ellen Kimball, 1015 Lake Shore Drive,
Osceola, IA 50213. All information needed to participate can be found on the website www.fws.gov/juniorduck. There are also free, printable student and teacher curriculum.

All entries submitted to Mary Ellen Kimball by Wednesday, Feb. 25, will be
publicly displayed in Osceola, then hand delivered to the state office.

The 2014 Iowa Junior Duck Stamp winner was Lynn Singer, a 15-year-old from South Union School District. Her entry was a king eider done in pastels and is traveling around the United States with all the “Best of Show” winners.

The entries are judged by a panel of five judges with 100 Iowa students receiving awards. The “Best of Show” from the state of Iowa will be submitted to the Federal Junior Duck Stamp design contest.
