Donna Redman Leon

Donna Redman, 82, of Leon died Dec. 24, 2014, at Westview Acres in Leon.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. The Rev. Clegguart Mitchell officiated. Burial was in Leon Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established by the family.

Donna Jean Redman, daughter of William and Clara Warren, was born March 13, 1932, in Decatur County.

Donna’s childhood was spent on the farm north of Leon. She attended Leon Brethren Church. She attended country school through the eighth grade, and then attended Leon High School, graduating in 1950.

On Sept. 9, 1951, Donna married Donald Dean Redman at the Brethren Church in Leon.

Donna moved to California in February 1952 to be close to her husband who was stationed at Camp Pendleton.

They moved to Huxley when Don got out of the service. In 1959, they moved back to Leon, and in 1962, Don’s job transferred him to Albia.

Donna was a homemaker until all of her children were in school. Donna began working part time in the Albia Community School system as an aide and secretary, but only worked one semester because Don was transferred to Creston. This was in 1966. They lived there until 1968, when they moved to their current home north of Leon close to Van Wert.

In 1971, Donna began working for Clarke Community Schools at the Weldon Center. She was the secretary, acting nurse, kitchen helper and playground supervisor. She retired in 1994.

Donna was a member of Leon Bible Church and active in its activities. She helped in the nursery, with vacation Bible school, and was active at Freedom Bible Camp.

Donna is survived by her husband Donald; children, David and Linda Redman of Leon, Deanne and Dan Bowers of Fairfield and Darrell and Teresa Redman of Leon; grandchildren and their spouses, Brent and Michelle Redman, Erica and Scott Evans, Clint and Reagen Redman, Andy and Ashley Bowers, Angie and Troy Bisgard, Aly and Bruce Dahlhauser, Michael and Gloria Redman and Ashley and Zac Cooper; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles and Marletta Warren of Leon, Doris and Eldon Binning of Leon and Gary Warren of Des Moines; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; brother Chester Warren; and sisters-in-law, Imogene Warren and Ginger Warren.
