Joyce Mostrom Van Wert

Joyce Mostrom, 70, of Van Wert died Dec. 15, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark., after complications from health issues.

Visitation and funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 20, at Slade- O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. Burial was in Leon Cemetery.

Joyce Elaine Mostrom, daughter of Leo Francis Fairchild, was born July 22, 1944, in Leon.

Joyce grew up in the Decatur County area and in Cedar Falls, before the family moved to California.

As an adult, she lived in Osceola and worked at Furnas Electric.

On May 8, 1992, Joyce married Lyle Mostrom in Leon.

They moved to Minnesota, where Joyce worked at Peerless Plastics.

In 1997, they moved to Van Wert, where Joyce took care of their rental properties. They moved into their new house in 1999.

Because of health issues, Joyce started kidney dialysis until she had a transplant. They were currently traveling and spending time in Hot Springs, Ark.

Joyce is survived by her husband Lyle Mostrom; children, Melvin Stokes Jr. of Des Moines, Cleo Williamson of Newton, Marlene Krukow of Des Moines, David and Nicole Barnette of Faribault, Minn., Mary Jane Barnette of Des Moines and Shelly and TJ Fry of New Virginia; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Thelma Wilson of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Larry Fairchild of Osceola and Randy Fairchild and Tammy of Tama; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; sister Ruth Hammit; and grandson Daniel Bethards.
