Clarke bowlers split with Des Moines North

The Clarke bowling teams split with Des Moines North here on Dec. 4, as the Clarke girls posted a 2163-1883 victory over the Bears, while the boys fell by a score of 2577-2375.

Senior Bronwyn Miller led the Clarke girls, bowling her first career 200 game to post a series of 378.

“This is her fourth year bowling for us and she has really improved every year,” head coach Dale Helgevold said. “She threw her first 200 game in this meet with a 178 to start her series. The girls put in a solid performance and really seemed to gel well.”

Sara Andrew bowled a two-game series of 289, while LeeAnn Helgevold rolled a 276. Courtney Clark finished the day with a series of 257, as Alexxa Blair rolled a 225 and Sydney Palmer recorded a 210.

Damon Helgevold led the way for the Clarke boys, as he threw a two-game series of 387, with games of 179 and 208. Brock Bucy rolled a 373, while Ethan Potter just missed a 300 series by bowling a 299.

Geo Smith recorded a 284 and Gordon Witt bowled a 274, as Michael Berryhill finished the day with a score of 234.

“Damon Helgevold led the way for the boys in the loss, followed by Brock Bucy,” coach Helgevold said. “We had to pull up a couple of JV bowlers into a varsity position for the meet and they did a good job for us, we just fell a little short. Our Baker round hurt us this time, as we couldn’t get things to mesh the way we need to for some higher games.”

The Indians rolled games of 166, 178, 164, 130 and 120 in the Baker Rotation.

Clarke returns to action today at Southeast Polk against the Rams and Ankeny.
