Roadrunner girls repeat as POI champions

LAMONI — Interstate 35 repeated as Pride of Iowa Conference champion here on Oct. 14, finishing 21 points ahead of runner-up East Union with 37 team points.

On the boys side, Nodaway Valley’s “Black Plague” posted its third perfect score of the season, claiming the Pride of Iowa Conference championship at Graceland University’s campus. The Roadrunner boys finished second with 69 points, 54 points behind Nodaway Valley.

Sophomore Shane Breheny paced the Wolverine boys, claiming the individual title, with his time of 16:53 over the 5K course. Breheny’s cousin, East Union sophomore Emma Harper won the girls individual title, edging out Nodaway Valley’s Destiny Scar by two seconds.

Cheyenne Hiatt paced the Interstate 35 girls with a fourth-place finish, running 16:02 over the 4K course. Marie Reitingerova finished sixth in 16:18 and Maddie Albers finished 10th in 17:08.

Lizzy Parish placed 11th in 17:14 and Kirsten Schirm rounded out the team scoring for the Roadrunners with a 17th-place finish in 17:31. Jordan Yawn was close behind in 18th, running 17:40. Christina Winslow ran 19:34 for 37th.

Central Decatur was led by Sarah Woods in 13th place, with her time of 17:17. Chelsie Weaver gave the Cardinals a second top-20 performer, finishing 20th in 17:46.

The Cardinals finished fourth in the team standings with 108 points.

For the boys, Interstate 35’s Dylan Brown placed 11th to lead the way, running 18:41. Morgan Nelson and Zach Goering finished 15th and 16th, respectively, running 19:18 and 19:22. Austin Pontier was 18th in 19:31 and Sam Cook rounded out the team scoring by placing 23rd in 20:17.

Central Decatur was led by Ben Savely in 14th place, running 19:25. Nick Bishop ran 19:44 for 19th place. The Cardinals finished fourth with 112 points.
