Clarke splits in Indianola

INDIANOLA — The Clarke Lady Indians split a pair of games here on Saturday at the Indianola Tournament.

Clarke lost 3-0 to Urbandale in its first game of the day, but bounced back for a 2-1 win over Indianola. The Class 3A third-ranked Lady Indians now sit at 19-8 overall.

Freshman Alex Boyce took the loss against Urbandale, pitching three innings and giving up three runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Only one run was earned.

Libby Bemis pitched the final four innings, holding Urbandale to no runs on just three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Offensively, junior third baseman Sara Andrew led the Lady Indians with two hits. Carley Robins and Amanda Kindred each finished with one hit. Courtesy runner Chynna Beydler recorded one stolen base.

In the win against Indianola, ranked 12th in Class 4A, Bemis held the Indians to just four hits, striking out six with two walks.

Clarke took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, and after Indianola tied it at 1-1 in the seventh inning, bounced back with another run in the bottom half of the inning.

Offensively, Bemis hit a solo home run. Kindred drove in the only other Clarke run, scoring Andrew.

Devon Carson, Andrew and Vanessa Bakley each recorded one hit for the Lady Indians in the win.

Conference win

The Lady Indians picked up a 6-3 South Central Conference win over Chariton on June 26.

Bemis gave up three runs on five hits, walking none and striking out 10 in the win. Offensively, she added a home run and two RBI.

Carson also drove in two runs on two hits for Clarke. Kennedy Crees and Kassidy Spurgin each drove in one run. Crees and Robins both recorded two hits.

Designated player Brenna Paul, Sydnee Redman and Kindred each recorded one hit.

Clarke finishes the conference season today at Albia.
