WINTERSET — The Interstate 35 softball team went 2-1 at the Winterset Classic here on Friday and Saturday.
The Class 3A 10th-ranked Roadrunners fell to host Winterset 12-0 on Friday, but won 9-1 against Chariton and 3-2 over Van Meter on Saturday.
Freshman Shai Major went 3-for-4 at the plate in the win over Chariton with a double and four runs batted in. Slye Richardson added two RBI on a double. Brooke Brommel finished 2-3 at the plate with two walks and one RBI.
Freshman Carlyn Stanley picked up the win for the Roadrunners, allowing just four hits with two walks, while striking out five.
Senior Jenna Sandquist pitched in the win over Van Meter, giving up just four hits and walking six to go with nine strikeouts.
Sandquist also drove in a run from the leadoff spot in the order. Josie Wickett and Riley Morris each finished with one RBI.
Murray 16, Diagonal 0
DIAGONAL — Murray senior Kate Patton pitched a perfect game with six strikeouts here Friday, as the Lady Mustangs won 16-0 in three innings over Diagonal in Bluegrass Conference action.
Offensively, Patton helped her cause with two home runs — a solo shot to lead off the game and a three-run homer in the third inning. She also hit a double, finishing with five RBI.
Alyssa Staudt went 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Madison Gonseth collected two hits with one RBI for Murray.
"Our offense really got rolling in the third against a very young Diagonal team," Murray head coach Danny Jensen said. "They were down just 4-0 heading into the third. It was our first conference win. Kate has now won 14 games in a row."
