Jack Heilman Osceola

Jack Heilman, 87, of Osceola died May 28, 2014, at Southern Hills Specialty Care.

Services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. The Rev. Shane Simpson officiated. Masonic services were 5 p.m. Sunday. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

John Lewis Heilman, son of John and Ramona Heilman, was born Dec. 3, 1926, in Centerville.

Jack graduated from Weldon high School in 1944.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18 in 1944 and served for 19 months.

After his discharge, Jack returned home to farm with his father.

On June 16, 1948, Jack married Lela Babberl at the United Methodist parsonage in Osceola.

They rented farms for several years before buying their own farm south of Osceola. Jack farmed and helped Lela when she opened LeAnns sewing factory.

Jack was a member of Osceola Lodge No. 77 A.F. & A.M.

Jack is survived by his sons, John (Barbara) Heilman of Osceola, Bill (Lu) Heilman of Durham, N.C., and Mark (Carole) Heilman of Osceola; grandchildren, James (Alicia) Heilman of Fort Worth, Texas, Tracey McBroom of Osceola, Vanessa (Bob) Murray of Columbus, Ohio, Ryan (Kelley) Heilman of Washington, D.C., Angelica (David) Woodson of Greensboro, N.C., John (Jennifer) Heilman of Des Moines Jesse (Tori) Heilman of Osceola; 19 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; brother Dennis (Karen) Heilman of Des Moines; sister Donna White of Peotone, Ill.; sister-in-law Marie Heilman of South Hampton, N.J.; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife, granddaughter Carla Heilman, brother Bert Heilman; and sisters, Marilyn Wadsworth and Adele Suddith.
