Wavalene Holt New Virginia
Wavalene Holt, 82, of New Virginia died May 18, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, after battling pneumonia.
Services were 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at Osceola United Methodist Church. The Rev. Julie M. Poore officiated. Interment was in Liberty Cemetery. Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Osceola, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to her family for a tribute to be established at Mosaic of South Central Iowa or Osceola United Methodist Church. Wavalene (Moore) Holt, daughter of Molly Rachel (Atwood) and James Evan Moore, was born Oct. 13, 1931, in Pollock, Mo.
She grew up on a farm in southern Wayne County.
Wavalene was a 1949 graduate of Corydon and then moved to Des Moines to live and work.
There, she married William Orval Holt.
Wavalene was a homemaker.
In 1966, Wavalene and her children moved to Liberty.
The family attended the New Virginia Christian Church until 1971, when they joined Osceola Methodist Church. She attended King’s Daughters Sunday school class and taught the Sunshine class for many years.
Wavalene is survived by her children, Brenda (Jerry) Turnage of Colorado City, Texas; and Debra (Richard) Gordley, Denise Holt and Stephen Holt, all of Des Moines; grandchildren, Rico (Nicole) Starling of West Hills, Calif., Karen Stearns of Dallas, Texas, Rebecca (Thomas) Connell of Westbrook, Texas, and Daniel Stearns of Grapevine, Texas; great-grandchildren, Brianna Lathers and Bailey Connell of Westbrook, Texas, and Marco Starling and Alessandro Starling of West Hills, Calif.; sister Crystal Wicker of Pleasant Hill and James William (Linda) Moore of Norwalk; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Wavalene was preceded in death by her parents; brother Donald Moore; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marvalene and Marvin Rush and Ruby and Max Rush; sister-in-law Lillian Moore and brother-in-law Glen Wicker.
