Great night of racing kicked off 2014 season at CCS

The 2014 racing season finally kicked off last Saturday night after a long winter with some great racing and great weather. A total of 71 cars made the way to the speedway with a packed grandstand for the first night out.

The Jr. FWD’s kicked off the racing season with six cars starting the A Main. Katelyn Byrd took the lead at the drop of the green and led the first two laps. T.J Woods made the charge from the second row to take over the first spot and never looked back as he took the first win of the season. Byrd finished in second with rookie driver Keni Miller in third and Alan Delker in fourth.

Next up were the Pro 4 Trucks as Garrett Nelson and John Bakely led the field to the green. Once the green flag flew, Nelson took charge and never looked back, leading all 10 laps to score the victory. Andy Forcht from Stuart finished second, John Bakely third, and Kristin Clark fourth.

Twenty-four Micro Sprints started the main for their 20 lap feature with Cory Forsyth and Eric Bridger leading the field to the green. For the first 10 laps, Bridger showed the way with Forsyth and Ryan Leavitt close behind. A lap later, Forsyth was able to make the pass for first while he and Bridger made their way through lap traffic.

From there on, Forsyth was the one to beat and he held on for the win. Bridger was second, Leavitt third, Brad Comegys was fourth from the 12th starting spot and rounding out the top five was Jon Hughes.

The CCS B-Mods were up next with 11 cars. Rick Germar from Red Oak stole the show, leading all 16 laps for his first win of the year. Buddy Ray Jones made the haul from Council Bluffs and made a strong run for second. The Bear brothers were right behind with Josh in third and Scott in fourth, as fifth went to Jason Mason.

The outlaws of the Southern Iowa’s Action Track took over for their 15-car, 16 lap Outlaw Hobby Stock main. Trent Jeanes used his front row starting spot to his advantage, leading the field early. Brodie Buckingham followed close in second, as Trevor Tanner and Greg Gilbert followed.

After a few cautions and a brief red flag for a fire, Gilbert made the charge to second with Buckingham and Darin Dezwarte close behind. In the last few laps, a battle began for the top four spots, but in the end, Jeanes was the winner with Gilbert second, Dezwarte in third, Trevor Tanner fourth and Jim Alexander fifth.

Last but not least, the FWD Street Stocks closed out the show with some of the closest racing of the night. Rookie Korbin Norris and Jacob Camden battled for the lead for the first several laps with Dean Richards, Trent Orwig, Steven Fenton and Logan Richards battling for third close behind.

These drivers went three-wide over half the race for the top spots. Logan Richards made his way through, using the bottom part of the track to move into second at the halfway point, then taking over the lead from Norrison on lap seven. Logan held on to take the win with Jacob Camden second, third to Norris, Orwig fourth and Fenton fifth.
