Loye ‘Gene’ Carson Osceola

“Gene,” 81, passed away on May 2, 2014 at the Clarke County Hospital.

Gene’s ashes will be interned at the family farm and Maple Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Gene was born June 12, 1932, at home in Woodburn Ia. to Olin Carson and Lena “Powell” Carson.

He grew up on his parents farm and attended country school in Woodburn.

Gene joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served four years on the aircraft carrier Midway.

He returned home to Osceola where he met and married Patricia Goodrich in 1954.

Gene held many jobs before starting his own concrete business and shared ownership of the Westside Tavern with his wife Pat. Gene retired at the age of 70.

Gene and Pat were the parents of Andrea Carson “Hart” and Clayton Gene Carson. Gene also had another son Ryan Carson.

Gene is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Andrea Hart and husband Randy, sons Clayton Carson and Ryan Carson, sisters Roberta White, Leanna Phillips and Shirley Phillips Wilson, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and 1 foster grandson.

Gene was well known for his many sayings and crazy sense of humor. He liked mushroom hunting, fishing, reading westerns and John Wayne movies.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Olin and Lena Carson, father and mother in-law Ray and Zilpha Goodrich, siblings Bill, Laveda, Buck, Jake and Claudia.

He and Pat were charter members of the Osceola Eagles and will be missed by many relatives and friends.
