Earnest Church Chariton

Earnest Church, 93, of Chariton died April 29, 2014, at Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment was in Last Chance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Chariton Public Library or Last Chance Cemetery repairs. Online condolences may be left at

Earnest Church, son of Sarah (Musgrove) and John Church, was born May 4, 1920, in Chariton.

On Feb. 7, 1941, Earnest married Nadine Proctor in Princeton, Mo. The two started their lives together in Iowa on the farm. They moved to Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, with their five children, where Earnest worked in the lumber industry. They moved back to Iowa, so Earnest could farm.

Earnest was baptized in May Church near Goshen. He remained a member of the church.

Earnest is survived by his children, Nancy (Robert) McGee of Indianola, Connie (Paul) Prough of Chariton, Mary (Craig) Jeffries of Overland Park, Kan., and Billy (Jo) of Tolano, Ill.; daughter-in-law Judy Church of Murray, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Earnest was preceded in death by his wife; son Loren Church; twin infant daughters, Joann and Jeanette; grandson Marc Church; parents and siblings, Mae Holcomb, Charlie Church, Merle Campbell, Elizabeth Miller, Edgar Church, Glenn Church, Frank Church, Nadine Church, Arthur Church, Clyde Church and Edna McVey.
