Clarke tennis beats Saydel

Girls win Knoxville Invite

The Clarke tennis teams continued to play strong, picking up wins over Saydel on April 22, while the girls also won the Knoxville Invitational on Saturday.

The Lady Indians cruised to a 7-2 home win over Saydel on April 22.

Seniors Libby Bemis, Tracy Morgan and Cassidy Bierbrodt all had decisive wins in their singles matches at No. 1 through No. 3. Rachael Simpson also picked up a 10-6 win at No. 6 singles over Leah Silver, as Clarke led 4-2 after the singles matches.

Morgan and Bierbrodt cruised to a 10-1 win over Sydney Samples and Mackenzie Miller at No. 1 doubles. Bemis and Macey Snell won 10-7 at No. 2 doubles over Mackenzie Carter and Melanie Gustafson.

The team of Sydnee Redman and Simpson the finished off the win with a 10-6 victory at No. 3 doubles over Michaela Bobenhouse and Silver.

The Clarke boys also picked up a 7-2 win over Saydel, on the road.

Colin Morris fell 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, but Jared Jamison picked up the Indians with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Yahia Aly won a tightly contested match at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (12-10).

Senior Jacob Redman won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, while Ali Aly also won a close match in come-from-behind fashion, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7). Senior Holden Hewitt picked up a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 6 singles.

Morris and Jamison teamed for a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles over Alex Gustafson and Hunter White. Yahia Aly and Redman picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Joe Smith and Evan Andrews.

Ali Aly and Hewitt lost a close 7-5, 6-4 match at No. 3 doubles.

Knoxville Invite

The Clarke girls won the Knoxville Invitational on Saturday with a total of 15 team points. Knoxville finished second with 13 points and Davis County was third with seven points. Centerville and Chariton both finished with zero points.

Bemis cruised to the singles championship, as her closest match in the tournament was an 8-3 triumph over Jordyn Thompson of Davis County in the finals.

Snell lost in the first round of singles play, but picked up an 8-2 win over third-seed Sydney Ocker of Centerville in the consolations.

The Clarke tandem of Bierbrodt and Morgan also cruised to a championship, winning by scores of 8-0, 8-1 and 8-1. The final 8-1 victory in the championship match came over the Knoxville team of Taylor Carter and Paige Spowart to clinch the title for Clarke.

The team of Redman and Simpson lost 8-5 in the first round, but battled back for an 8-4 win over Chariton's team of Goril Michalsen and Courtney Shounkwiler in the consolation round.

Clarke returns to action Friday, with the boys traveling to Creston/O-M and the girls hosting the Panthers.
