Iowa Economic Development Authority announced Osceola Chamber/Main Street is to be awarded a Main Street Iowa Business Innovation Challenge Grant in the amount of $5,000 to develop a new retailing website for the downtown.

Iowa Economic Development Authority Director Debi Durham presented the award to members of the Business Improvement Committee of Osceola Chamber/Main Street. Jeff DeForest, Dave Selene, Paula McClaflin and Dave Leonard represented Osceola Chamber/Main Street at the presentation.

The project will focus on creating a downtown retailing website to help fill empty storefronts and to bring in new business or help current ones expand.

“This project will help retailers find building owners in Osceola and allow our retail market to expand,” said Jeff DeForest, chair of the Business Improvement Committee. “We all want to see Osceola prosper and this is a step in the right direction.”

The Business Improvement Committee will be working on the website and marketing plans over the next few months and plans to roll out the website in August.

“It’s going to take some time and there will be bumps in the road, but I think this will be a boon for the downtown in the long run,” DeForest said.
