Dannie Fain – Creston
Dannie "Dan" Fain, 71, of Creston died April 11, 2014, at HCI Care Service Hospice House in Creston.
A celebration of Dannie's life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at the United Methodist Church in Afton. The Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery northeast of Afton. Visitation with family present will be 10 a.m. service time Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to HCI Care Service for its Hospice House in Creston. The Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville is in charge of arrangements. Dannie Fain, son of Mary Rosella (Foland) and Newell Fain, was born April 2, 1943, near Afton.
Dan graduated from the Afton High School in 1961.
After serving for a short time with the United States Army and being honorably discharged, he went on to attend Creston Junior College, Omaha Business School and then Iowa State University in Ames, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business.
While attending school in Omaha, Dan worked at Union Pacific Railroad.
After graduating from college in 1966, he began working for the Farmers Home Administration (FHA) in Ames. He was later transferred to Ankeny, then on to Toledo.
In 1974, Dan left the FHA, and devoted full-time to farming with his father and brother Willard in the Afton and Lorimor area.
In 1986, Dan was asked to return to FHA and work in the Osceola office until his retirement in 2008.
In 2009, Dan moved to Camp Verde, Ariz., where he lived until August 2013, when his health began to fail, at which time, he returned to Creston.
Dan is survived by his brother Willard (his wife Janice) Fain of Afton; sister Lana Easter of Lorimor; nieces, Jackie (husband Roger) Dohlman of Hampton, Juliann (husband Kent) Sinn of Creston, Robin (husband Jon) Schmidt of Centerville, Amy (husband Rod) Mead of New Hartford, Brooke (husband Drew) Dornack of Creston and MacKenzie (husband James) Harwood of Winter Park, Fla.; and several great-nieces and -nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joan Rae Fain on May 18, 1942.
