Sally Ann (Slezak) Porter, 68, of Murray passed away April 1, 2014 at The Rose of East Des Moines.
A service in celebration of her life was held 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, at The Murray Church of Christ, where she was a member for 10 years. Pastor Brian McCracken officiated. Her ashes will later be taken to Colorado, where Sally spent some of her happiest days.
Sally Porter, daughter of Frank and Lora Slezak, was born August 26, 1945, in Wichita, Kansas. She was the middle child to sister, Pat and younger brother, Tom.
Sally graduated from St. Teresa’s Academy in Kansas City, Missouri in 1963 and attended The University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor’s (1967) and Master’s Degree (1969) in Special Education.
In 1970, Sally married William Porter in her childhood home in Kansas City, MO.
Sally taught special education in the Jefferson County (CO) school district for many years before moving to Murray in 1989. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and lifelong sports fan. She loved her Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Cubs. She was a big supporter of Murray High School athletics and had a lifelong commitment to education.
Sally is survived by her son Joshua (wife Staci), granddaughter Averi and grandson Isaac of Ankeny; brother Thomas Slezak (wife Diane) of Leawood, Kansas; sister Patricia Lock (husband Joe) of Overland Park, Kansas; step-daughter Nicole Salvato (husband Daniel) of Darien, Illinois; along with a nephew, nieces, and many friends.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents and newborn daughter, Erica.
