UPDATE: Central Decatur girls win POI outright; CD wrestlers fall in regional team duals

POI title

With Central Decatur's 48-35 win over Wayne on Tuesday and Interstate 35's 22-21 loss to Martensdale-St. Marys, the Central Decatur girls claimed the Pride of Iowa Conference championship outright.

Junior Lydia Martin scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to record a double-double off the bench for the Cardinals, as the five seniors on the team got the start. Hallie Linhart added 10 points and seven boards.

Freshmen Raegan Boothe and Lily Simon both chipped in eight points. Jeals Elsberry scored four points in the win.

Seniors who started for Central Decatur were Whitney Eivins, Elsberry, Kate Havens and Sydney Smith.

Interstate 35 entered Tuesday with an opportunity to at least share the Pride of Iowa Conference championship with a win over Martensdale-St. Marys.

The Blue Devils used a stalling technique to slow down the pace of the game. Martensdale-St. Marys led at halftime 9-6.

Interstate 35 pulled ahead in the third quarter, taking a 16-14 lead, but Martensdale-St. Marys outscored the Roadrunners 8-5 in the fourth quarter for the 22-21 win.

Slye Richardson led the Roadrunners with six points, while Gracey Griglione added five points with five rebounds and eight blocked shots.

Charlie Rupp and Brooke Brommel both finished with four points and three rebounds, while Riley Morris scored two points and had team-highs in rebounds with nine and steals with four.

Dual Team Regionals

Central Decatur's run in the dual team regionals didn't last long, as the Cardinals fell to 14th-ranked Grinnell in regional semifinals, 72-6.

All but two contested matches ended in pins for Grinnell, with the only Central Decatur win coming at 160 pounds, where Colton Ranney won by forfeit.

Clayton Dale lost a 7-2 decision at 138 pounds to Griffin Reding, while Darin Martin lost a 7-4 decision at 145 pounds to Garrett Jay.
