Don Dale Osceola

Don Dale, 93, of Osceola died Jan. 31, 2014, at Southern Hills Specialty Care.

Services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. The Rev. Alex Bauman officiated. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to his family or HCI Care Services of Osceola. Online condolences may be left at www.kalefuneralhome.com.

Fillmore Donald Dale, son of Roxie (Beach) and Forest Dale, was born June 17, 1920, in Napier.

Don grew up in Boone County. He worked to provide for his large family.

Don served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was in the motor pool transporting heavy equipment for building runways for the Army Air Force. 

Don was discharged at Fort Sheridan, Ill.

On Jan. 3, 1946, Don married Mary Yahnke in Richland Center, Wis.

Don and Mary owned a skating rink in Britt, and Don drove the school bus in Osceola.

They moved to a farm southeast of Osceola in 1970, where Don farmed and did custom spraying.

Don was a member of Murray Baptist Church, Herndon-Oehlert American Legion Post No. 157 in Woodburn and Osceola V.F.W.

Don is survived by his wife Mary Dale of Osceola; children, Kathy Dale of Mason City, Ross (Sally) Dale of Pella, Rebecca (Marty) Oehlert of Osceola and Judy (Dallas) Zander of Runnels; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, brother Wayne (Ruth) Dale of Indianola, sister-in-law Betty (Robert) Dale of Indianola, as well as many relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, son John Dale, five brothers, four sisters and a step-granddaughter.
