Three Indians place at ADM Tiger Invite

ADEL — Three Clarke wrestlers placed here Saturday at the ADM Tiger Invite, as the Indians finished 16th in the 17-team field with 33 points.

Webster City claimed the team title with 215 points, beating out Dallas Center-Grimes (179.5) and Antioch (175).

Ian Showers finished sixth at 106 pounds for the Indians, going 1-3 for the day after receiving a bye in the opening round.

Showers won an 8-3 decision over Audubon’s Collin Subbert in the quarterfinals, before being pinned by Antioch’s Briley Schultz in the semifinals. Showers lost a 12-9 decision to DC-G’s Ben Carr in the consolation round and then lost by fall to Subbert in the fifth-place match.

Jacob Bair also finished sixth at 170 pounds. Bair opened the tournament by pinning Nevada’s Alex Peebles in 2:10.

Bair then picked up a win by fall over Antioch’s Zac Keller in 1:39. But, Bair lost in the semifinals by fall to DC-G’s Blake Wolinski in 3:50. Bair then injury defaulted his next two matches, finishing sixth.

Younger brother Nathan Bair went 2-3 for the day and also placed sixth at 182 pounds.

Nathan Bair pinned his opening-round opponent Jordan Hansen of Audubon in 2:00. He then lost by fall to Dakota Clausen of Dallas Center-Grimes.

In the consolation rounds, Bair picked up another pin, this time over Colin Bruce of Red Oak in 4:27. He then lost by fall to Julio Ramirez of Antioch and dropped an 8-3 decision to Kaleb Sents of Ames to finish the day.

Quad

The Indians hosted a quad meet on Jan. 16, hosting East Mills, Moravia and Albia.

The Indians went 1-2 for the day, defeating Moravia 39-30, but losing to East Mills 60-18 and to Albia 60-24.

In the loss to East Mills, Clarke got wins from Jarrod Coe at 145, Gable Reece at 160 and Brock Brokaw at 113. Coe and Reece each won by pin.

Reece picked up a second pin for the day at 170 pounds in the win against Moravia. Also winning by fall in that dual were Showers (106) and Junior Morales (138). Nathan Bair won an 8-1 decision at 182 pounds.

In the loss to Albia, Lane Carson scored a pin at 285 pounds in :48 over Trever Blackford. Brokaw also earned a win by fall, pinning Storm Little in 2:44 at 113 pounds.

Clarke returns to action Friday and Saturday at the John J. Harris Classic in Corning.
