Gabriel James Crawford, 14, of Osceola has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts — the Eagle Scout Award.
He was recognized at a Court of Honor ceremony Jan. 4 at Murray Baptist Church.
A member of Scout Troop 101, Crawford is one of approximately 2 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank.
Candidates are required to earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate ideals of service and leadership, including organizing and leading an extensive service project. Crawford chose to renovate the landscaping around the sign at the entrance to the Clarke County Fairgrounds.
Crawford, also a member of Clarke County 4-H, worked closely with the fair board to develop a plan to reconstruct the landscaping. He organized the labor for the project with the goal of finishing the project prior to the 2013 Clarke County Fair. Work was completed on June 22, 2013.
Crawford is a member of Murray Baptist Church and active in football, wrestling, baseball, FFA and drama at Clarke Community High School, where he is a freshman.
He is the son of Brian and Molly Crawford and grandson of Leland and Linda Crawford and Sue Morris, all of Osceola.
